We’re excited to welcome Wade Caves to SDAS in February 2017 for two fascinating events:

Lecture: Friday, February 10, 2017

Thwarting Dr. Death: The Astrologer’s Use of Decumbiture. Historically, astrology and natural philosophy formed the cornerstone of medicine. Through decumbiture charts, astrologers assessed the true root of an illness, identified its severity and also its cure, while forecasting the cycle of critical periods where illness was brought to peak.

This presentation explores the basics of humor theory, a system that was used to explain imbalances in the body that were believed to lead to disease. How do the individual qualities come together to create a temperament? What does it mean to have one quality in excess, and how is that seen in the chart? Using historical and modern chart examples, we will examine these questions and the judgment of decumbiture charts by practicing physician astrologers of the past and present.

We will not only explore what kinds of illnesses, diseases and cures are affected by each of the planets and signs, but the rationale behind the scheme. Finally, we will consider the doctrine of sympathy and antipathy in helping determine the cause of illness and the path to effective treatment.

Admission: $14 non-members, $8 SDAS/NCGR/SCAN members

Workshop: February 11, 2017
10am – 1:00 pm, location TBA

Navigating Celestial Waters with Electional Astrology

Much of the work that we do as astrologers — both professional and hobbyists alike — focuses on past and present events, employing a rigorous application of astrological symbolism to make better sense of the world around us. We can use that same knowledge of celestial cycles to help us be more proactive in all aspects of our lives.

Elections form the branch of astrology that focuses on selecting ideal times for the big decisions in our lives — when to open that bookstore, when to sign the lease on that new car, even when to cut your hair to increase or decrease growth — to avoid unnecessary troubles and to provide you or your client every advantage possible.

In this workshop we will explore the guiding principles of electional astrology, complete with example charts and practical exercises. What are the critical things to get right when electing? What are astrology’s limits when electing for the future, if indeed there are any? The techniques are simple and straightforward once understood and will better equip any practicing astrologer in their future elections. In a group discussion, we will also consider how elections fold into other branches of astrology. This presentation is suitable and warmly encouraged for astrologers at all levels.
