LECTURE: The 6th and 10th Houses in Matters of Career
Friday, October 12, 2018
7:30 – 9:45 pm
Joyce Beers Community Center, Hillcrest
It’s common in modern times to read that the 6th house is the house of ‘work’, and that the 10th is the house of ‘career’. We can trace the origins of these seemingly correlated assignations back to their roots, and with a little maneuvering, find first principles at work. This presentation seeks to explore the history and meaning of the 6th and 10th houses, how and in what contexts they might be referenced side-by-side (and what might drive a practitioner to use them interchangeably), and offers some suggestions for working within a sound construct between these two houses for yourself and with your clients.
To unpack the essential themes of these houses and show their effects, we will use both natal and horary charts, with a special emphasis on charts which demonstrate the relationships between the 6th and 10th house: what it signifies when the 6th-ruler is in the 10th, or the 10th-ruler in the 6th; what the astrologer should be thinking about when the ruler of the 1st and 10th is the same planet; and, how to guide your clients through issues related to career and vocation. If you have a birth chart with conflicting themes, or career horaries of interest, bring them with you!
This presentation is suitable for astrological enthusiasts of all levels, including those who have no personal or professional experience with horary astrology. Attendees will receive a thorough handout for further study.
Admission:
SDAS/NCGR/SCAN members: $8 | Non-members: $14

WORKSHOP: Techniques in Annual Forecasting
Saturday, October 13, 2018
10:00 am – 1 pm
Joyce Beers Community Center, Hillcrest
One of the more common client requests of practicing astrologers: “Help me forecast my year!” In the modern age, astrologers have an almost limitless selection of techniques to choose from, but not all juice is worth the squeeze. How do we know which forecasting techniques deliver the goods?
In this workshop, we will review some of the most common techniques of astrological forecasting: solar and lunar returns, profections, transits and progressions. The astronomy and traditional philosophy underwriting each of these techniques (both symbolic and real-time) will be explained, and in so doing a natural hierarchy will begin to emerge.
But learning the theory behind forecasting is only part of the game. Once we have established foundational knowledge, we will dive headlong into a hands-on forecasting practicum bringing themes through to maturity. An example nativity will be provided, and we will work individually, in teams and then collectively to develop a fluent, thorough forecast for our client. Some of these approaches might feel familiar, some might be new, but at the close of our time together you will see the benefits of a clear and focused approach to researching and exploring astrological trends in yours or your client’s life.
This workshop is suitable for astrological enthusiasts of all levels, including those who have no personal or professional experience with astrological forecasting. Attendees will receive thorough handouts for further study.
