LECTURE: Re-identifying Chiron – From Wounded Healer to Maverick-Shaman

Friday, April 12, 2019
7:30 – 9:45 pm
Joyce Beers Community Center, Hillcrest

On February 18, Chiron entered the sign of Aries, where it will transit through mid-2026. In this lecture, we will explore the influence of Chiron in Aries through the houses.

The discoverer of Chiron, Charles Kowal, called it a Maverick because of its eccentric orbit. It usually stays between Saturn and Uranus, but occasionally goes out beyond the orbit of Neptune. I usually read Chiron in Aries as a wounded identity, someone who may be confused about who they are, because they have dual families, for instance, and they feel like an outsider in both. Or maybe some spontaneous action they took met with stern disapproval that led to a mistrust of or confusion about self.

I think Chiron in Aries calls for all of us to rethink how we think about who we are, to be brave enough to be authentic and unique, and to reconnect with the healing powers of our personal connection to God via nature. For example, Chiron in Aries in the 4th house can compel a person to be true to themselves in a family that don’t appear to understand them or share their values. The shaman is less involved in healing by the laying on of hands or the administering of herbs and medicines, than by being a healing influence by his or her own artful overcoming.
